ASICLAND Signs MOU with Gwangju Metropolitan City and Local Universities to Strengthen Collaboration in AI and Semiconductor Industries

[2024-09-25] ASICLAND is stepping forward to foster the AI semiconductor industry ecosystem in partnership with Gwangju Metropolitan City and local universities.
ASICLAND (445090, CEO Lee Jong-min), a leading provider of ASIC (Application Specific Semiconductor) design solutions, announced on the 25th that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gwangju Metropolitan City, Chosun University, and Chonnam National University to build an AI semiconductor industry ecosystem.
The signing ceremony took place at the business room of Gwangju City Hall, attended by key officials including Lee Jong-min, CEO of ASICLAND; Kang Gi-jung, Mayor of Gwangju; Kim Choon-seong, President of Chosun University; Kim Su-hyeong, Vice President of Research at Chonnam National University; Kim Sang-don, Vice President of Education at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology; Kim Yong-seung, Director of the AI Industry Department; Lee Kyung-joo, President of the Gwangju Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency; and Oh Sang-jin, Director of the AI Business Division.
The MOU covers key areas of collaboration, such as:
▲ Support for creating an AI and semiconductor industry ecosystem
▲ Establishment of an R&D center in Gwangju to create jobs and operate the ASIC design house
▲ Training of professionals in the AI and semiconductor sectors
▲ Joint research and development
▲ Technical guidance and consultation
▲ Employment program linkage and collaboration
▲ Promotion of cooperative projects with local semiconductor companies.
Through this agreement, ASICLAND plans to operate a semiconductor training program for the youth in the Gwangju region, establish an R&D center in Gwangju to create jobs and manage the ASIC design house, and collaborate with local semiconductor companies, aiming to hire over 100 local talents in the next six years.
Lee Jong-min, CEO of ASICLAND, stated, “This agreement will serve as a significant stepping stone for Gwangju to emerge as a key hub for the semiconductor and AI industries. By providing quality education and job opportunities for local youth, we aim to make a substantial contribution to the economic development of Gwangju.”
Kang Gi-jung, Mayor of Gwangju, added, “ASICLAND is the first fabless company to be attracted to Gwangju, laying the foundation for the local semiconductor industry ecosystem.
