ASICLAND Signs AI VPU Development Agreement with SUPERGATE
▶ Strategic Partnership Established to Strengthen Edge AI Ecosystem… Market Diversification and Global Expansion Expected
▶ First Mass Production of AI VPU Expected… Expected to Contribute to Domestic Autonomous Driving AI Chips, Industrial AI Systems, and More
[April 29, 2025] ASICLAND has joined hands with SuperGate to strengthen collaboration in the edge AI ecosystem.
ASIC design solution expert company ASICLAND (445090, CEO Jongmin Lee) announced on the 29th that it has signed a turnkey contract with SuperGate (CEO Seungphil Shim) for the development of a Vision Processing Unit (VPU). The contract is valued at 10.5 billion KRW, and through this collaboration, the two companies aim to accelerate the development of high-performance VPUs and strengthen their foothold in the edge AI market.
Through this agreement, the two companies will work together to commercialize Vision AI specialized chips. This collaboration is expected to be the first instance of ASICLAND's mass production of an AI VPU chip, and it is anticipated that key components will be supplied for AI CCTV, industrial AI systems, and more.
The two companies plan to provide high-performance AI solutions by optimizing AI algorithms and integrating hardware (H/W) with data processing and neural network processing units (NPU). Additionally, they will gradually expand their cooperation to include autonomous driving systems in the future.
The VPU is a processor specialized in real-time image and video recognition and deep learning inference. It is characterized by structural efficiency that can handle concurrent calculations at high speeds. Based on compatibility with various frameworks and software libraries, it is gaining attention as a core solution in various industries such as AI CCTV, autonomous driving, industrial safety, smart cities, security, healthcare, and AR/VR, with global market demand growing rapidly.
Meanwhile, SuperGate, an official partner of ARM ADP and recognized as one of the Rising Stars in the Global Fabless 30 in 2024, is recognized for its technological expertise in high-performance computing (HPC) and vision AI solutions. SuperGate CEO Seungphil Shim stated, "Through collaboration with ASICLAND, we are now one step closer to enhancing and commercializing the VPU, and based on our custom semiconductor design capabilities, we will continue to secure sustained technological competitiveness in the high-performance computing market, including autonomous driving."
ASICLAND CEO Jongmin Lee stated, "The turnkey service agreement, which includes responsibility for post-processing, is a symbolic achievement that demonstrates our technical expertise and reliability. This will further strengthen our position in the next-generation AI chip market and accelerate our global market expansion based on our strategic partnership with SuperGate in the edge AI ecosystem."
