ASICLAND Takes First Step in Building Gwangju Metropolitan City’s Semiconductor Ecosystem – Opens First Office Among Agreement Partners
▶ Collaboration with Gwangju Metropolitan City and Local Universities to Boost AI and Semiconductor Ecosystem.
▶ Plans for Extensive Cooperation in Technology Exchange, Talent Development, and Business Exploration.
▲ On April 15, ASICLAND held an opening ceremony for its new office in Gwangju Metropolitan City at the Gwangju Content Cube (GCC), attended by Gwangju Metropolitan City Mayor Kang Gi-jung, ASICLAND CEO Lee Jong-min, and other key stakeholders.
[April 16, 2025] ASICLAND, a specialized provider of ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) design solutions (445090, CEO Lee Jong-min), officially opened its Gwangju Metropolitan City office on April 15. The event brought together leaders from the city government, local institutions, and fabless companies such as AimFuture, Mobillint, and SuperGate. The participants discussed directions for joint efforts in technology exchange, workforce training, and business cooperation.
This office opening is part of a broader agreement signed in September last year between ASICLAND, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and local universities (Chonnam National University, Chosun University, and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology) to foster an AI and semiconductor ecosystem in the city. Notably, ASICLAND is the first fabless company among the agreement’s signatories to establish a physical office in Gwangju Metropolitan City, marking a tangible first step in its commitment to supporting the city’s semiconductor industry.
At the opening, ASICLAND announced its intention to lead initiatives such as:
- Collaborating with local universities to train semiconductor professionals
- Jointly executing ASIC R&D projects
- Exploring cooperative ventures with regional semiconductor firms
CEO Lee Jong-min stated, “This office in Gwangju Metropolitan City is not merely a base of operations—it will serve as a technology hub that grows together with the region,” adding, “We will continue to work closely so that Gwangju Metropolitan City can become a leading center for AI and semiconductor industries.”
Mayor Kang Gi-jung commented, “The opening of ASICLAND’s office in Gwangju Metropolitan City is a significant first step in establishing the city as a core hub of the semiconductor industry. I hope this event provides local youth with opportunities in semiconductors and fosters a sustainable model of cooperation between businesses and the region.”
ASICLAND is an official Value Chain Alliance (VCA) for TSMC, the world’s largest foundry company, and holds global competitiveness in cutting-edge fields such as sub-5nm design and CoWoS (Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate) packaging technology. The company is also accelerating development of next-generation chiplet-based platforms, outlining a roadmap for future semiconductor innovation.
