Jongmin Lee, CEO of ASICLAND, mentioned in an interview with the Korea Economic Daily on the 12th, "In a situation where 70% of Korean fabless companies use TSMC processes, ASICLAND, which has established a cooperative relationship with TSMC, significantly contributes to the development of the Korean semiconductor industry."
ASICLAND, founded in 2016 by Lee, a former employee of Hynix (now SK Hynix), is widely recognized as Korea's only TSMC partner. It is one of only eight official TSMC partners worldwide and was selected as a TSMC partner in 2019.
The key to entering the TSMC ecosystem was providing turnkey solutions for the entire process, from initial product development to mass production. Lee explained, "Most design houses offer only back-end services (converting logical designs into physical layouts), but ASICLAND provides turnkey services from front-end (initial logical design) and early development consultation to mass production."
As a TSMC partner, ASICLAND also serves as a bridge between domestic fabless companies and TSMC. Lee noted, "Chips designed by domestic fabless companies, research institutes, and universities rely on TSMC processes. Without ASICLAND, the connection to TSMC would be lost."
ASICLAND holds multiple core technologies, including patents related to AI semiconductors, back-end design and mass production of AI semiconductor chips for data centers (the first in Korea), AI processor technologies, and an automated platform for CPU subsystems.
The company has subsidiaries Wismind and Top ASIC, operates an office in Vietnam, employs about 150 people, and has around 70 domestic fabless clients. The company's revenue was 45.3 billion KRW in 2021 and approximately 66 billion KRW last year. This year's revenue is projected to reach 120 billion KRW.
ASICLAND aims to go public within the year and is currently working on its IPO. It plans to apply for a preliminary listing review next month and submit a securities report in August. Lee stated, "The IPO is for expanding overseas."
